Spring Musical FAQ (Your questions answered!) All additional questions can be answered by Mr. Alzaher in room 309. Q: Can I still be in the musical if I do sports? A: Yes. We are working closely with coaches to make sure all GB students have the opportunity to be a part of the sports teams and the musical, though larger roles will require a bigger time commitment. Q: What’s the musical this year and what’s it about? A: The musical this year is “Annie Jr.”. Based on the popular comic strip, Annie tells the extraordinary story of a little orphan who ends up in the lap of luxury with Depression-era billionaire Oliver Warbucks. Unlike most of the other children at Miss Hannigan's orphanage, spunky Annie believes that her parents are still alive and will one day return to claim her. So when Mr. Warbucks offers to adopt her, she asks the most powerful man in America to help find her real mom and dad instead, and he agrees. Warbucks' whopping reward for Annie's parents attracts the attention of con artists Rooster, Lily and the wicked Miss Hannigan, who hatch a plot to kidnap Annie and take the $50,000 reward. But don't fret: This classic family musical has a happy ending for all! Q: How do I audition? A: The audition process will begin this week (September 13th) in the auditorium. - All students that want to be in the musical MUST sign up for an audition time on Mr. Alzaher’s door. - ONLY students auditioning to be leads must memorize a few lines of a given monologue beforehand. - All auditioners must pick between a few given monologues AND attend a Prep Session (September 13th-15th DURING PGC and after school on the 13th/14th) to learn one of the songs from the show. - Auditions will be held on September 15th and 17th after school. CALLBACKS for lead roles will be on September 20th. Our first full cast read through is Monday September 27th. There are PGC time-slots available for emergencies only. Talk to your coaches! Most auditions will take 5 minutes. Q: When is the musical? A: Tech week for the musical starts December 13th with a dress rehearsal on December 15th. The performances are December 16th and 17th. All students interested in being involved absolutely must be free from December 13th-17th from 3-9pm. NO EXCEPTIONS. Q: Do I have to be there everyday? A: Not usually. Lead parts will most likely have to rehearse 3-4 times a week, where ensemble roles (smaller roles) will likely meet just a few times a week. Rehearsals will run from 3pm-5pm Monday through Thursday for most of the rehearsal process. You MUST keep tech week (12/13-12/17) open. Q: Can everyone participate? A: The Musical this year will include cuts. There are many roles available for students in the cast and crew, but roles will be chosen based on audition results, commitment level, availability, and need. Q: What if I’m not sure if my schedule permits me to be a part of the play? A: Come to auditions anyway. During the audition process, you must list your after-school commitments. After reviewing your audition form, the director and staff will decide how to best incorporate your talents based on your availability. Be honest and open about your availability so Mr. Alzaher and Mrs. Ferrara can make the best decisions for the production about casting. Note: If you auditioned for The Election or Frozen Jr and quit or were asked to leave the cast or crew, you are not eligible to audition for this show.
