The GBMS school finalists for the National Geographic Bee were Michael Dumiec, Autumn Rodriguez, Ben Liu, Nihal Singh, Ryan Long, Devan Sutaria, Kevin Fu, and Maahi Manek. After a difficult final round of competition, which included three students being knocked out of the competition by a single question, only Autumn Rodriguez and Devan Sutaria remained. Eighth grade student Devan Sutaria won the school competition on January 11, 2018 and now has a chance at a $50,000 college scholarship. Devan will now take a qualifying test to determine his eligibility in the New Jersey State Bee final on April 6, 2018.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the National Geographic Bee. Over three decades, more than 1500 state champions have traveled to Washington, D.C. to participate in the Bee national championship rounds. This year’s final competition will take place from May 20 to May 23.
