Election Day Move
On January 17, 2012; Governor Chris Christie signed into law A-4394/S-31748. This law established procedures for school districts annual election to be moved from April to the general election in November. The law established three ways in which the election can be moved to November. The change can take place by board resolution, the municipality, or by petition of the citizens. At the Green Brook Board of Education meeting on January 23, 2012; the Board engaged in a discussion regarding the options available to the Board and the procedures that would occur if the election were to be held in April or November. The public was also given the opportunity to weigh in on their opinion regarding the law and to ask questions that they had. During the business portion of the meeting, a resolution was put forth by the Board to move the April Election to the general election day in November. By moving to the general election day in November, the Board is required to keep the vote in November for at least four years and to stay within the current 2% cap. Should the need arise to exceed the cap, a ballot question will be proposed and voted upon in November. The Board is still required to have a public hearing and adopt the budget in March and have it approved by the Somerset Executive County Superintendent of Schools. This budget will continue to be reviewed to ensure that a thorough and efficient education is being provided to the students of Green Brook.
Should you have any questions regarding this law and the change in the election date, please contact Michael Colling, Business Administrator at (732) 968-1171 ext. 1201.

During the 1998-99 school year, the Irene E. Feldkirchner School was nationally recognized as a Blue Ribbon School. Mrs. Bilenker, former IEF Principal and Superintendent, along with the faculty and staff are recognized for exemplifying true educational excellence. This tribute is based on outstanding leadership quality, expert faculty, exceptional student performance, strong curriculum, safe facilities, as well as community involvement and commitment to the goals of the school. There are only four Blue Ribbon Schools in Somerset County with IEF being the only elementary school. Therefore, it is an honor to the entire community to have its school obtain this level of distinction.
